HAHIRA — Valwood School will continue the annual tradition for the families and supporters who have decided to honor and memorialize persons with named spaces on campus.
The group dedication is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in the gazebo on Dasher Quad.
The Valwood School Board of Trustees has approved the dedication of the James B. Sineath Instrumental Music Room, the Mr. and Mrs. Lou Blanton Heritage Hall, the William J. Pearlman Conference Room, the Justin Taylor Hobdy All Purpose Room and the Marie DeMersseman Lower School Commons, according to school officials.
The James B. Sineath Instrumental Music Room: “Jim was the proud father of Valwood alumni John and Brannen Sineath. He along with his wife, Monique, believed in and supported the school throughout his life. Music was a passion of Jim’s and allowed him to create and lift his spirits at the same time. The Sineath family along with Linda and Rick Allen dedicated the room in memory of Jim.”
The Mr. and Mrs. Lou Blanton Heritage Hall: “Heritage Hall, housing Valwood memorabilia, located inside Crane Hall is dedicated in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Lou Blanton by their children and the N.G. Houston family. Mr. Blanton was a founding trustee and both he and his wife worked tirelessly to support Valwood for many years with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren being part of the Valwood family.”
The William J. Pearlman Conference Room: “The Pearlman and Soshnik families dedicated the Crane Hall Conference Room in memory of William J. Pearlman. Mr. Pearlman is memorialized in honor of his lifetime commitment to the community and Valwood School. Many of his family, including currently his great-grandchildren, have received their education at Valwood.”
The Justin Taylor Hobdy All Purpose Room: “Originally dedicated to honor Justin’s memory in 2006, the facility is rededicated this year as the Justin Taylor Hobdy All Purpose Room. A graduate of the Class of 2002, Justin was a talented member of several varsity athletic teams. His spirit for Valwood through his athletic achievements as well as his exemplary character are remembered by family and friends through this naming.”
The Marie DeMersseman Lower School Commons: “The Lower School Commons area is dedicated by ‘Mrs. D’s’ loving family. As one of Valwood’s first teachers on the Central Avenue campus, Marie has been remembered for her passion for teaching, friendship and counseling skills. Her inspiration to those who walked Valwood’s halls during its formative years still lives on.”
