Valwood literary team is going to state

HAHIRA, GA March 6, 2018 – Valwood School’s literary team had a great showing at the Region 3-AAA Georgia Independent School Association Literary Competition on Monday, March 5, at Albany State University. Students placed in the top two, in five of the categories that they competed in.

Junior, Erin Moss, finished in first place in girls’ solo for her performance of “Se Tu M’ami” by Alessandro Parisotti and “Give Me Jesus” by Mark Hayes.

Singing “Caro Mio Ben” by Tommaso Giordani and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” by Hughie Prince, the trio composed of juniors, Sarah Sable and Erin Moss and senior, Taylor Sanderlin finished in first place for their region performance.

Junior Kasey McQuitty placed second in the piano category for her performance of “Front Range” by Kevin Olson and “Moments Musicaux” by Schubert.

The boys’ quartet composed of seniors Nic White and John Miller, sophomore Marc Brookhouser and eighth grader Georgia Tidmore placed second in region. This group performed “Fascinating Rhythm” by Mark Hayes and “Walk Like a Man” arranged by Kirby Shaw.

Senior Isabella White and her partner, junior Mary Lacey, won the duo interpretation category at region for their performance of “Flight 212 to L.A.”

Next for these talented performers is the State Competition on March 20, 2018 at Gordon State College in Barnesville, Georgia.

Also competing at region were seniors Blake Barnes (drama), Georgia Booth (essay), Hope Hathcock (essay) and Taylor Sanderlin (essay).

The Valwood Literary team is coached by Marti Schert (vocals) and Phyllis Childree (drama). A special thank you to Lee Mikuta for accompanying our performers on the piano.
