VALDOSTA— Students of Valwood School’s 2018 graduating class will venture throughout the southern U.S. in the fall to pursue their college education.
Valwood seniors participated in Signing Day Thursday, April 26. The students sported t-shirts showcasing the university for which they’re bound.
Valwood Coach Justin Henderson announced the seniors’ future plans during the event.
“They’ve all worked hard, whether it’s the meetings I’ve had with parents (regarding) taking too many AP classes or the meetings I’ve had with parents thinking ‘are we ever going to get this child to the finish line?'” Henderson said.
From Ole Miss in Mississippi to right here at Valdosta State University, the seniors’ college destinations varied.
Starting in the fall, Valwood Valiants will be found at Georgia Tech, the University of Alabama, the University of Georgia, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida, Mercer University, Guilford University in North Carolina, the University of Florida, the University of West Georgia, North Georgia University and more.
Intended majors were as varied as the universities to be attended. Future majors included nursing, music business, molecular biology, journalism, mechanical engineering, aviation and aeronautical sciences, neuroscience, sports management and more.
Among the senior class was Chandler Anne Call, Valwood’s 2017 homecoming queen, who will attend Mercer University in Macon and plans to pursue a major in music business.
Another student, Drew Sawyer, who earned 38 Advanced Placement and dual enrollment credits, plans to attend Guilford University where he will play baseball. Sawyer intends to double major in health science and in exercise and sports sciences.
Senior Hannah Dawson’s future plans were quite different than those of her peers. A Valwood soccer player and member of the volleyball team, Dawson plans to join the Navy in the fall.
