Valwood Announces New Director of College Counseling

Valwood School is pleased to announce Katherine Ross has been named our Director of College Counseling beginning the 2024-2025 school year.

With a year of dedicated service as a math teacher in the upper school, Katherine has woven herself into the fabric of Valiant life, both in the classroom and on the courts as a coach for volleyball and tennis.

Joining us from The Potomac School outside of Washington, DC, where she honed her skills as an Upper School Dean and math educator, Katherine brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Armed with a Master of Education in Independent School Leadership from Vanderbilt University, she is primed and enthusiastic about the prospect of guiding and counseling Valwood’s upper school students through the intricate college application journey. Her passion for education and commitment to student success make her a natural fit for this pivotal role, ensuring that Valwood students are well-equipped for the next chapter of their academic journey.

Mrs. Ross is happily married to her husband, Paul, who is a captain in the US Air Force where he serves as the clinical psychologist in the 23rd Medical Group at Moody AFB. Together, they enjoy spending time with friends, family, and their four-legged baby, Woodley, traveling, and reading.

Katherine stated, “I am excited to step into this new role in the Valwood upper school. Deciding where you want to go to college is a pivotal decision in life, and having the opportunity to help guide students through this process to find the right school for them is something I know will be extremely rewarding. I look forward to building relationships with students and parents, so everyone feels confident throughout the journey to the college experience.”
