A tough outing at the plate amounted to the Valwood baseball team taking a 5-1 loss against the Madison County Cowboys in Madison, Fla., on Tuesday night.
The Valiants were limited to one hit, a double by Mason Williams. Williams also had an RBI to score Caleb Burns for a 1-1 tie after the first inning.
The Cowboys pulled ahead in the second with a pair of runs and added two more in the fifth.
Dylan Bass and Dustin Bass had two hits apiece for Madison County. Dilan Lawson scored two runs.
Drew Herring pitched a complete game for the Cowboys. He allowed one hit and one run, while striking out seven.
Mac McRae allowed six hits and five runs and struck out seven in 4 2/3 innings for Valwood.
The Valiants host Madison County at 5:30 p.m. today. The senior night event will be at 5:20 p.m.
