The Tiftarea Academy baseball team scored the go-ahead run on an error in the fifth inning and Valwood couldn’t respond in a 2-1 loss Thursday night.
Both sides were short on hits. Valwood finished with three to the Panthers’ four.
JM McRae had a double for the Valiants. Will Matt doubled for Tiftarea.
Tommy Davis allowed four hits for two runs with no strikeouts and no walks in six innings for Valwood.
Dawson Patterson earned the win for the Panthers, tossing six innings while surrendering three hits for one run with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Tiftarea led 1-0 after the first inning and Valwood came back to tie it in the fourth when McRae scored. The Panthers’ go-ahead score came in the bottom half of the inning.
Valwood returns April 5 for spring break tournament play against Bethlehem Christian at 6 p.m. in St. Simons.
