Valwood started the game strong Tuesday against Brookwood en route to its first Region 3-3A victory of the season in a 17-1 win.
In the top of the first, lead off batter Bri Fosdick was a hit by pitch, and following a Natalie Rojas bunt single, Graceigh Booth singled to center field to score Fosdick for the first run of the game. Emily Taylor followed the two singles with a home run over the left-field fence bringing the score to a quick 4-0 lead.
In the top of the second, Fosdick walked with Rojas following up with a triple up the right-field line to score Fosdick.
The Valiants were held off the scoreboard in the third, but they struck again in the fourth, beginning when Ansley Haskard singled to center field and Darcee Brown snuck a bunt for a hit. Lindsey Browning came up with a single scoring both runners.
Fosdick reached base again when she beat out a ground ball to third, scoring Browning. Booth followedt with another single to center to plate Fosdick for the third time. Booth also crossed home when Taylor grounded out to shortstop.
In the bottom of the inning, Brookwood capitalized on Valwood’s only error of the game when the runner reached safely before scoring on a single.
But in the top of the fifth, several walks, errors, and hits pushed across the final seven Valiant runs. Brown, Browning, Rojas, and Bennett all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Ansley Bennett started in the circle for Valwood where she struck out six and while taking advantage of keen defensive plays. She only allowed three hits on the day.
Valwood returns home Thursday for a contest against region rival Southland Academy (10-6, 2-0) at 4:30 p.m.
