Valwood’s second grade class had their annual Community Tour this morning where they visited several important places around Valdosta. Mrs. Nijem and Mrs. Rasmussen have been coordinating this field trips for years now, and the students always come away more knowledgable and appreciative of the city – plus they have tons of fun.
The class started off at the Municipal Courthouse where the students were the jury in a mock dispute between Mrs. Nijem and Mrs. Rasmussen and presided by Judge Vernita Lee Bender. Both teachers were found guilty!! From there, they class traveled to the Oak Street Firestation where they learned about fire safety, the duties of a firman, and how all the fire equipment works.
After a break for lunch at Dairy Queen, the class made their way to Resasant Bank and took a tour of the building, got to peek in the vaults, and learn about money. Finally, they visited Winn Dixie to see how the food makes its way to the shelves!
