Using a six-run sixth inning, the Valwood baseball team snapped a five-game skid and notched a GISA Region 3-3A victory in the process.
Jaharie Boone hit a two-run homer in the second inning and the Valiants finished with 10 hits in a 10-1 rout against the Brookwood Warriors in Thomasville on Tuesday night.
Valwood had one out on the board when Boone sent a ball across right field, plating Dane Fafard and giving the Valiants a 2-0 advantage.
The Valiants added some insurance runs in the sixth, first scoring on a sacrifice fly by Colby McGee and next on a double by JM McRae to make it 5-0. Boone scored from third and an error helped McRae score. Caleb Burns offered a double, scoring Mason Williams to push the lead to a commanding 8-0 lead.
Boone finished with two hits with three RBIs and scored two runs for Valwood. McRae had two hits with two RBIs and scored a run, Burns added a pair of hits with an RBI.
As much as the Valiants scored, they still left 10 runners on base.
The Valiants received six innings in a start from Mac McRae. He allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Fafard secured the win with an inning in relief, surrendering one run on four hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.
Warriors’ pitcher Joe Parker took the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and five walks in 5 1/3 innings. Harper McLendon pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief, allowing three hits and three runs with a strikeout and four walks.
Jacob Lauderdale paced the Warriors with two hits and an RBI. The team finished with four hits.
