JM McRae hit a solo home run in the third inning of the Valwood Valiants’ 9-3 loss against the Brentwood War Eagles at Frederica Academy’s baseball tournament in St. Simons on Saturday morning.
McRae homered to center with one out to pull the Valiants within 4-3. He scored two runs and added an RBI.
But the War Eagles added to their advantage in the fourth, widening the scoring gap. Jay Musselwhite scored on a wild pitch before Denver Pingley doubled to center, scoring a pair of runners to make it 7-3.
Musselwhite hit a two-run homer in the fifth to secure Brentwood’s win.
Pingley finished with two hits and two RBIs for the War Eagles. Peyton Massingale added two hits and scored a run, while allowing five hits and three runs with four strikeouts and one walk in 3 1/3 innings on the mound.
Colby McGee started for the Valiants, lasting 3 innings with five hits for six runs with two strikeouts and one walk. Mason Williams relieved with four hits for three runs with two strikeouts and one walk in 3 innings.
After dropping five straight, the Valiants look to recover in their return to GISA Region 3-3A competition. They visit Brookwood in Thomasville on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
