Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle to Address Valwood Graduates
Valwood School is pleased to announce Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle will deliver the commencement address at the school’s 45th Commencement ceremony on May 22, 2015.
“I am honored for the opportunity to speak at Valwood School’s graduation ceremony,” said Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. “This is an exciting time for Valwood’s graduating students and I’m excited to be able to share this celebration with them. “
“It is a tremendous privilege to have Lt. Gov. Cagle accept our invitation to speak at graduation,” said Valwood headmaster Dr. Darren Pascavage. “His remarks will be of interest to citizens all over the state of Georgia, and his presence will add a special measure of distinction to what is already a dignified and important milestone in the lives of our graduating seniors.”
A successful entrepreneur and respected former State Senator, Lt. Gov. Cagle made history in 2006 by becoming the first Republican elected to Georgia’s second highest office. In November of 2010 and 2014, in recognition of his outstanding efforts on behalf of the state his family has called home for seven generations, Georgia voters overwhelmingly re-elected Lt. Gov. Cagle.
Shortly after taking office, Lt. Gov. Cagle launched the Georgia College and Career Academy Network, a partnership between local community leaders, school systems, and Georgia’s technical colleges. The college and career academies provide a relevant and rigorous curriculum aimed at preparing students for a highly skilled, 21st-Century economy upon graduation. Georgia has 33 college and career academies today with additional academies planned every year.
An avid triathlete, Lt. Gov. Cagle leads Healthy Kids Georgia, an effort to encourage local partnerships that introduce children to healthy lifestyle options. Under the slogan of “Be Fit. Be Healthy. Be You.” the initiative helps acquaint children with ways to improve their health and wellness. Working together, local communities are beginning to stem the tide of childhood obesity in ways that are proven to increase academic achievement and reduce long-term healthcare costs.
Because of his successes, Cagle was recently named one of the most influential Georgians by both Georgia Trend Magazine and James Magazine and is often recognized by various national and state groups for his support of small businesses.
Notwithstanding his many accomplishments in private and public life, Lt. Gov. Cagle is most proud to be a husband and a father. He has been married to Nita, his high school sweetheart, for 28 years and they are the proud parents of three sons- Jared, Grant, and Carter. They live in Gainesville and are active members of Blackshear Place Baptist Church.
