Tayte Barry’s three-run home run in the fifth inning gave the Valwood baseball team the lead for good en route to a 7-3 victory against the Tiftarea Academy Panthers on Tuesday.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Barry homered across left field, plating JM McRae and Mason Williams.
Caleb Burns had three hits to lead the Valiants. Barry and Williams each finished with two.
Valwood received five strong innings of pitching from Mac McRae. He allowed two hits for three runs with three strikeouts and three walks in earning the win.
Dane Fafard picked up the save with two innings. He allowed three hits and no runs with one strikeout and no walks.
Hunter Hartsfield had two hits with two RBIs for the Panthers.
Grant Hall took the loss for Tiftarea, surrendering one hit for one run with two strikeouts and two walks in two innings. Brandon Prudhomme started, allowing six hits for two runs with five strikeouts and two walks in four innings.
Valwood visits Tiftarea at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
