Twenty-nine Valwood students, the most in school history, have been named AP Scholars, including one National AP Scholar, by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college level Advanced Placement Examinations.
The AP Scholars, granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more exams, are 2015 graduates Bryce Everett, Savannah Jane Gilchrist, Seth Golden, Grace Guilliams, Hailee Hathcock, Arabi Luke, Amanda Lupo, Allie Maxwell, Emily Pascavage, Joseph Stark, Zilan Yang, and current students Sara Barrett, Olivia Cox, Carly Eaves, Meagan Kimbrell, Garrett Moss, Addy Perlman, Ty Petermann, Joyce Ro, Maggie Smith, Peyton Trancygier, and Collin Vandemark.
Recent graduate William Hawthorne was named AP Scholar with Honor. This distinction is awarded to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
AP Scholar with Distinction are 2015 graduates William Allen, Evelyn Langdale, and Jason Papadopoulos, and current students Jack Helms, Sara Knighton, Kush Patel, and Brenna Wilson. These students earned at least an average score of 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
Finally, 2015 graduate Jason Papdopoulos earned the highest AP award given, the National AP Scholar. To earn this distinction, students must score an average of 4 on all AP exams given, and a score of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
Students take the AP Exams in May after completing challenging college-level courses at Valwood.
